If You Can Find Your Doctor, You Can Keep Your Doctor, Except When You Can't
-
You cannot underestimate the negative effect the U.S. health insurance debacle -- Obamacare or not -- has on the public (including your listeners and you). Trouble dealing with insurance companies could be the sole topic for a daily show. And here's one thing nobody's talked about much: When you go to find a doctor, the insurance companies' directories are often out of date or wrong. Doctors listed as in a plan aren't. Doctors showing up as taking new patients won't. And the insurers' answer to that is: you're on your own. You're expected to call around and double check their own directories, because they can't be bothered to update their own lists. If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. (New York Times)
