BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I’m a Senior in Lindenwood University studying Music Business. I’ve been studying music since I was 10, and my primary instrument is the drums. I also can play guitar and piano. I came to the U.S. four years ago to study something related to the music industry.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
The radio was an essential part of my life while I went to places by car. The first thing I always did was turning it up when I entered the car. The first radio stations that I considered my favorite when I was little were Europa FM and Los 40 Principales.
Honestly, I did not know I could work for the radio until a friend, who was in this position before, told me about it and I said yes. I would like to know how the inside of a radio station can be and working everyday with music around is something I love.
2. Who were/are your mentors?
My mentors are my parents. They taught me most of the things I know about life, and they’ve been supporting me in everything I do. They always tell me to work hard in whatever I want to do and that way things will work out. Also, related to music, my mentor is the percussion teacher I had when I started studying music. He made me be more interested in music and wanting to pursue a career of it.
3. What is your major at Lindenwood and do see yourself pursuing a radio career after you graduate?
I’m studying Music Business and I don’t really know where I will end up, but this is a good option. Anything related to music or the music industry I will be happy.
4. Are there any Triple A-type radio stations in Spain?
I’m sure there are but I’ve never heard any of them. I used to listen the radio in the car, so I had to choose from the ones that my parents had. Next time I’ll go back and search for one.
5. For those that have never heard the station, how would you describe the sound of the station?
I think any people from every age or any preference in music would like this radio station. There are so many different artists that you can always find at least one that you will like. I can say the main genre is adult alternative/rock music, but I like that it can have more than that.
6. How do you feel about the current climate of music?
I feel like everything is coming back to normal since COVID 19. I was so sad when there was nothing outside streaming music. One of my favorite things in the world is concerts and live shows. Seeing how artists are announcing tour dates again makes me happy.
7. What new acts are you most excited about?
One of the new acts that I’m liking a lot is Jxdn. He’s the special guest for Machine Gun Kelly tour, which I’m going to watch this late September. They both are making pop punk/rock music coming back. All his music is produced by Travis Barker, who is my favorite drummer. Jxdn released an album not long ago, but I’ve been listening to it and it’s really good. There’s a collab with MGK on it too, which I like a lot.
8. What is the best advice someone has given you?
Treat people how you want to be treated, always be kind and have good intentions. Also, do whatever you like in life because you only live once and if there’s an opportunity you might do it now or never, even if it’s harder than choosing something you are not as interested in.
9. What would surprise people most about you?
Some people tell me I’m very mature for my age and that at first, I don’t look like I’m going to be like that. Also, people are usually surprised when I tell them I study music and I play drums. I guess there’s not as many women playing drums or working in the music industry. That’s something I’d like to change. It seems like the most powerful people outside the famous artists are men, people like managers, producers, etc.
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without …
… having breakfast. I know many people who can start the day and not eat until lunch. That’s something impossible for me. I feel like breakfast it’s my favorite part of the day. I also prefer breakfast in Spain, or the food in general -- that’s something I miss the most. Moreover, I cannot spend one day of my life without listening to music. I wake up and I get ready with it too.
Bonus Questions
First concert you ever attended.
The first big concert I attended was to 5 Seconds of Summer in Madrid when I was 15 years old.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time away from work?
I love hanging out with my friends, playing an instrument or being outside in general. It’s very common to be outside in Spain. I live near the beach so it’s usually warm there.
