Music & Commentary Weekly Wrap-Up for 5.17.2013
POP
American Idol
The week is ending with all the "American Idol" talk being about the newly revealed season 12 winner Candice Glover, and her new album already being available for pre-order. However the week began with "Idol" talk of a whole different kind. Last week it was first announced that the show's only remaining original judge, Randy Jackson would be leaving the show at the end of the season. This is probably because of how controversial this season has been. Long before an episode ever aired, the internet was already buzzing about conflicts between the show's newest judges, Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey. The conflict continued to be something talked about throughout the entire season, and finally came to an unavoidable head with Jackson's announcement. This was particularly noticeable because part of that announcement included the fact that Randy Jackson would also no longer be managing Mariah. This is significant because the two of them have been friends for many years, and have collaborated on different projects over the years. Click here to see Randy Jackson's complete statement, as well as a clip from the candid exclusive Ryan Seacrest did for E! with fellow departing judge Nicki Minaj.

Levine and his creative partner Jordan Feldstein has been given the go ahead by NBC executive Paul Telegdy to develop both scripted, and other types of programming for the network. There's no word on what that new programming will be at this point.
Not to be out done, Turner Broadcasting executive Michael Wright and former Voice coach Cee Lo Green announced that the singer would be getting his own unscripted show for TBS. Wade Robson
As you may remember from last week, former Michael Jackson dancer turned well known professional choreographer, Wade Robson came forward claiming that although he defended Jackson during the 2005 molestation trial, he was in fact sexually abused by Michael between the ages of 7-14. Now Robson went on NBC's "Today" show to discuss his allegations in detail. This interview is very compelling, and forces a viewer to consider all angles of what this case could be. Matt Lauer does a great job, and it began getting feedback from all around the world on both sides of the issue almost instantly. We think it requires a look. Click here to watch it.
Danity Kane/Sean "Diddy" Combs
It was a week filled with trend setting Twitter activity for everyone associated with Bad Boy Records past and present. First up was former platinum selling Bad Boy/Atlantic Records reality stars Danity Kane. DK group member Aubrey O'Day got the buzz going when she simply tweeted "I got a proposition if you want it… #DanityKane," along with an instagram picture of her with the other group members. The tweet got fans nostalgic, and the group began trending world wide on Twitter after being out of the spotlight since 2008.

Twitter played a big part in the week of Bad Boy Records chairman/Hip Hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs as well. For him however, it was because he used it to tell a joke, and sparked a national craze for a few hours. On Wednesday he tweeted that he was becoming a new regular on the PBS hit "Downtown Abby." In a matter of hours Combs set off a chain reaction of congratulatory reply tweets, and resulting online media coverage. Then he finally tweeted what was identified as a sneak preview, but was actually a Funnyordie.com skit that digitally placed him into scenes from the show as a joke. It is easily one of the most viral videos of the week that involves a mainstream music celeb. Click here to check it out. We chronicle how it was done, and we're betting you'll get a kick out of it. It's a great story.

This helped fuel Monday's pregnancy rumors released by The New York post. (click here to read New York Post) That got us to doing a little digging, and we found different clips of Beyonce talking about pregnancy, motherhood, and hinting at wanting a second child while doing interviews for her new animated feature "Epic.

Robin Thicke
Grammy Award winning R&B singer/song writer/producer, Robin Thicke took his career to new heights this week as his latest single "Blurred Lines" featuring Pharrell Williams and T.I. hit number one on the iTunes singles chart. This achievement happened after Thicke was invited to perform the song on NBC's hit music competition show, "The Voice" by his friend Usher, who is one of the new coaches this season. The song has already become a massive hit outside of the United States thanks to it's risqué music video, and it only seems to be getting bigger here now as well. On Wednesday, the day after his performance, Robin joined "Voice" host Carson Daly to discuss the song's impact, as well as the revival of Neo Soul in Pop music.
